Making round DIVs

Here’s the image-based method I used to make rounded DIVs. Use the following HTML code along with the CSS properties and .gif files. The results are a lot of fun and look quite good:

The Insider & Facebook connect

More and more sites using Facebook connect (a platform which allows integration of FB content on external sites) are popping up. CBS’s celebrity gossip site TheInsider is among the first to do so. Anyone can log in using their Facebook ID, and then can choose to have any comments, article votes, or poll responses show [...]

Now Your Online Business can Observe the Sabbath Online!

Saturday Guard automatically shuts down your website during Sabbath (and ONLY during Sabbath) according to the browser’s geographic location. Another genius innovation from our beloved religious sect (did I already mention that I can’t wait for someone to invent sarcastic type already!)

With the development of technology the Internet takes a major roll in [...]

Visual Delights for Browsing

Whoa. In the past couple of days I’ve discovered fresh web-based visual effects that give a lot of joy: 1) I am a big supporter of Gmail labels and filters. Since it is my main email box, I use it to subscribe group lists, bills, google alerts as well as receiving personal emails. Labels and [...]

On sympathy groups and why I diss(like) Twitter

Overload [def]:: to load to excess; overburden; fill to excess so that function is impaired – precisely how i feel about social networking sites recently. Plunged from their initial excitement to being yet another procrastination tool – one that minimizes the already little amount of sincere conversations I have with friends. Even though Twitter seems [...]

new media News

I’ve recently been enjoying the NYtimes multimedia feature. This latest one is a set of interviews with people who live in the Gaza strip. Different local perspectives on their lives and feeling towards the deteriorating political situation. It is a series of well-taken photographs placed in a slideshow along with translated audio of their interviews. [...]

Reuters: Were you there when the news happened?

I’m still not convinced at the effectiveness of this service. Almost a year ago, Reuters in collaboration with Yahoo announced the Youwitness News platform. If you see a newsworthy event, you are asked to send the picture to YouWitness, either by emailing it to pics@reuters.com or visiting the YouWitness site. Reuters editors review the pictures [...]

YouTube Remixer

Wow. I’ve just had such a pleasant surprise. I did not even realize this existed, but Youtube has a remixer on their site, made in collaboration with Adobe. Makes it super easy to take your own videos and create a remix, adding basic transitions, effects, subtitles and music (in the near future). Currently it allows [...]

Reading What Matters… the holy grail of the web

aideRSS is an ‘intelligent assistant‘ that saves time and keeps you on top of the latest news. Their creators claim to ‘research every story and filter out the noise, allowing you to focus on what matters most‘.

The holy grail of the web, or every blogger’s wet dream, is to be able to [...]

Online Translation of Harry Potter 6 to Chinese

Finally, a fantastic example of online collaboration bridging between languages. While the People’s Literature Publishing House is translating the new Harry Potter novel over the course of two months (down from the three months it took for the fifth volume), Harry Potter fans have been collaborating on an online translation of the book from the [...]
